Assessments
for Exceptional Children
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines assessment as "the act of making a judgment about something".
According to Pierangelo and Giuliani (2012), "assessment in special education is a process that involves collecting information about a student for the purpose of making decisions. It involves gathering information about a student's strengths and needs in all areas of concern. Assessment refers to the gathering of relevant information to help an individual make a decision. The educational and psychological assessment of exceptional students, specifically involves the collection of information that is relevant in making decisions regarding appropriate goals and objectives, teaching strategies and program placement" (p.4-5).
